Dr. Jatin Nathwani Presents the Energy 2030 Vision at JPAC Public Forum
NAFTA links Canada, Mexico, and the United States into the world’s largest trading bloc by combined GDP. This powerful economic tie provides enormous potential for growth and cooperation, especially in growing markets like energy and electricity.
In NAFTA countries, what is the prospect for renewable energy integration into the electricity markets? What are the opportunities and challenges? What technologies and policy mechanisms are needed to increase renewable energy uptake in North America?
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s Joint Public’s Advisory Committee (CEC-JPAC) under the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC) recently brought together energy experts from across the three member countries to investigate those questions, assess the current state of renewable energy and envision future potentials.
Titled “North America’s Energy Future: Powering a Low-carbon Economy for 2030 and Beyond”, the public forum took place in Toronto on April 18th, 2012 and saw meaningful exchange among the participants.
Dr. Jatin Nathwani, Executive Director of the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE), University of Waterloo, and a Lead Author of the Equinox Blueprint, was invited as a keynote speaker, along with other well-known energy experts. Dr. Nathwani took the opportunity to present on ideas from the Equinox Blueprint.
