Manager International Development, University of Calgary
Nalini Andrade is the Manager of International Development at the University of Calgary where she is responsible for developing international collaborations and projects, and engaging faculty, staff and students in development initiatives. She is an international development practitioner who considers sustainable development to be at the centre of the work she undertakes.
Nalini is motivated by witnessing and being a part of the SDG movement that is growing everyday across Canada and specifically at the University of Calgary. Last year alone the University was awarded the Global Compact Network Canada SDG Award and was a co-host of Together 2017, the first large pan-Canadian meeting on the SDGs.
“In order to move forward on the SDGs,” says Nalini, “we must address the marginalization and inequalities faced by Indigenous peoples, linking local to global, and realizing that advancing the SDGs begins at home.”
Participatory development, stakeholder engagement and social justice are the values that drive her work. At the Summit she plans to share her own best practices and to actively listen to the narratives and sharing of others. Nalini views building partnerships for the goals as a key outcome of the Summit. For fun she enjoying crafting, walking her dog and travelling.
