Capacity Building Specialist, Arc Finance
Laura Sundblad is a Capacity Building Specialist with Arc Finance, a US-based non-profit company that aims to expand access to clean energy and water through innovative financing mechanisms.
After spending ten months living on a small atoll in the middle of the Pacific in a house powered by a small solar home system, Laura was keen to work in energy access. “I wanted to learn more about how rural and remote households could gain access to clean energy to meet household needs,” she says, “going beyond lighting to food storage and preparation, laundry, and other tasks that are traditionally huge time sinks for women.”
Laura is building Arc’s expertise on gender equality issues in energy access. “One exciting initiative I am working on now is Arc’s Energy Financial Literacy program, which I am developing with Friends of Women's World Banking, India,” she says. The program is designed to help women microfinance clients gain the knowledge and tools that they need to make informed decisions about energy purchases and energy use in their households. “Access to clean energy enables families and individuals to fulfill their potential - without it, they are held back.”
